We spent an afternoon this week watching models audition to be part of the upcoming Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012.
I am not a model-in-waiting – the height check guy at Euro Disney stopped me to make sure I was qualified for an adult ride, the minimum height requirement at Lakmé was 5’ 7 – we have no illusions. But there are lots of tall girls hoping to make it as models so while we were behind the scenes we got some advice from the panel of judges:
KAPIL BHALLA, Make-up Artist
“Get fit and don’t try too hard. That is what puts everyone off when you’re a judge. When girls try too hard to make a statement or walk in a way to prove a point, that goes against them so it is to be avoided.
AKI NARULA, Stylist/Designer/LFW Gen Next Mentor
“Fitness, fitness, fitness!”
QUEENIE SINGH, Jewelry Designer/Columnist
“You have to have good carriage, good posture and a good body. You have to be fit, you have to be tall, that’s genetic – there’s nothing you can do about it. Fitness is key and you have to take care of your hair and skin. If you have a good body, don’t take it for granted. You have to be a little fashionable so it’s easier to style you than being completely non-fashionable you know. [Laughs]”
