Been a while since we’ve done one of these. The truth (and the excuse) has been that we were busy. That said…

Beet Cake
I want to do unspeakable things to this video. That’s how good it looks. But I realize you cannot actually do anything to a video, except play it again and again. So I have. Several times.

The shooting, the grading, the sound design, all of it! Pitch-perfect. This is how to make a video recipe. You can keep your grunting Nigellas. I like my recipe videos abstract and beautiful.

And now I am hungry!

The Super List
This is a very well shot short film. Clean, crisp imagery that goes a long way towards helping an audience truly follow the story. Very nice effects work and the kind of story arc that really appeals to my inner comic book fan.

We’ve seen more than a couple of stories like this in the recent past but this is a really nice take on the theme.

Age of Empires Online
The sheer scale and beauty of this animation is obvious from the earliest frames. It boggles my mind to think that they managed an epic timelapse sequence for this mostly because I am always so glad if I can manage any animation at all. To plan a sped-up shot gos way beyond my skill level or patience limit.

The clip also features very cool storytelling and stellar character design.

Lollapalooza 2011
I’ve made a couple of concert videos recently and while the final cuts were super fun to watch, the assembly and fine-tuning was tough. So I’m very much in awe of this piece that was shot at a recent Lollapalooza event.

This video does a great job of giving a sense of the vibe at one of these events without ever really spending too much time focusing on the artists that performed.

Attractive people having a good time? Always watchable.

Foolishly Seeking True Love
A stylishly told story, this one has been around for a while. I only recently watched it though and was thoroughly impressed by the filmmaking, the character and shot design, the shot taking as well as the grading. So basically everything. Maybe the music was a little too on-the-nose in its Amélie referencing but that is truly a minor quibble in a film this accomplished.
