The Weekly Playlist - Lykke Li

C2C – Down The Road
Let’s kick things off with this very cool song and video by French electronica band C2C. I have no idea what genre this falls into – there’s breakbeat, the blues and their page also lists this as ‘turntablism’. It’s a nuts mix and it all comes together for a very very solid tune.

Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers (Magician Remix)
To use YouTube-commenter-speak, Blue Is The Warmest Colour brought me here. This song plays at the lead character’s 18th birthday party. I have to warn you, if you haven’t heard it before, that it really sticks in your head.

SLK – Ride
We love us some moody atmospheric electronica and British act SLK provides it in spades on this song.

The Postal Service – We Will Become Silhouettes
I heard this one in the gym of all places. After an hour of songs whose lyrics consist of some combination of ‘party’, ‘raise your hands in the air’ and ‘I want to have a good time tonight’, the vivid picture of a post-apocalyptic future painted by this 2005 hit really stood out.

Robert Palmer – She Makes My Day
I have no memory of where I originally heard this song. This is very strange and vexing because like a lot of people, I remember where I first heard all the songs that I really like. I don’t have that information for this song and it really bugs me. It was referenced recently in a songwriting music theory tutorial and that’s where I encountered it again. You have to listen to it, it’s just so lovely.
