Betty Who – High Society
Some excellent dreamy pop to kickstart your week courtesy Australian-American singer/songwriter Betty Who. This track is off her new EP, available for free download here. Very solid set of songs. Enjoy.
DWNTWN – Big Jet Plane(Angus and Julia Stone Cover)
I played this on loop last summer and recently rediscovered it. It’s just so pretty, it’s gone back on repeat on my playlist. Beautiful shimmery sound.
Echosmith – Cool Kids
I’m curious about this very young band, comprised of four siblings from Los Angeles (ages range from 14-20). This is a summer track off their first EP and it achieves a good solid mood.
Robin Thicke – I Love It (Icona Pop Cover)
Either you do a cover exactly like the original or you turn it around completely and make it brand new. Star-of-the-summer Robin Thicke does the latter, totally owning this dance-pop hit with his cool, laid-back version. It’s hard to even remember the original which was a proper club banger that we featured in an earlier edition of The Weekly Playlist. Well played Mr Thicke.
Ben Howard – Call Me Maybe (BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Cover)
I was not a fan of this pop music behemoth by Carly Rae Jepsen but I was able to admire its strong pop arrangement when it featured in a mash-up with the Nine Inch Nails song Head Like A Hole. Here’s another new avatar of the song by British guitarist/singer/songwriter Ben Howard who I am a big fan of. He takes the relentlessly chirpy tune and turns it into a searing, driving, electric guitar/cello/bass piece that is quite a wonder to behold.
London Grammar – Wicked Games (Chris Isaak Cover)
You’ll be hearing a lot more of London Grammer here in the coming months. Enjoy this minimal cover of Chris Isaak’s 90s hit.
