The Weekly Playlist - Inside Llewyn Davis

Pop Danthology 2013
A good pop music mashup is my absolute guilty pleasure and this one by producer Daniel Kim is at the top of my list this year. By reducing the songs to short clips, all that is left of the original is the thing that makes up the essence of a well-crafted pop song – a good, tight hook. When the best moments from 68 songs are layered together, as is the case here, it’s irresistible.

Oscar Isaac and Marcus Mumford – Fare Thee Well
Beautiful song from The Coen Brothers film Inside Llewyn Davis.

Modeselektor feat. Thom Yorke – This
Berlin duo Modeselektor played a gig in town last week and I went looking for more of their music to listen to afterwards. This one features Radiohead frontman and reportedly big Modeselektor fan Thom Yorke.

Collective Soul – Blue Christmas
I remember playing this cover over and over in the car. Off a cassette tape. It’s just so cool.

Clare Maguire – Whenever You Want It
Vocals and piano done just right. Ms Maguire is an artist I’ll be looking out for in the new year.
