Richard Thompson – Beatnik Walking
I would never get any chores done if I didn’t listen to the podcast WTF with Marc Maron. Over the past few years that I’ve been listening to him, I’ve discovered the work of many many people, the latest of which is British musician Richard Thompson. Check out his talk with Maron here and make sure to wait around for his acoustic performance of his new song Beatnik Walking.
Ray LaMontagne – Airwaves
This exquisite song might bring you the quiet and peace you need to escape to when the week gets too crazy.
Dhruv Visvanath – Redemption
New Delhi singer/songwriter/guitarist Dhruv Visvanath recently released this song as the first single off his upcoming debut album Orion. It starts off promisingly (if familiarly) enough, but then does one better – builds into a section that manages to be percussive and airily lush at the same time. That background vocal riff is a cool touch by the way. It stuck in my head and called to mind Spandau Ballet’s True. I look forward to checking out the rest of the album.
Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris – The Pain Of Loving You
The voices, the harmonies!
The Amazing – Picture You
Swedish band The Amazing take their time in this 9 minute 35 second song in a way that suggests that maybe we should too. Slow down folks, put away the phones, just listen.
