Lily Allen – Somewhere Only We Know (John Lewis Christmas Ad)
People are divided on how they feel about Lily Allen’s cover of Keane’s 2004 hit for the new John Lewis Christmas ad. I can’t complain at all – the little animals, the sweet story, the earnest singing. It works for me and the animals are all so lovely you just have to check it out to decide for yourself.
Twin Shadow – With Or Without You (U2 Cover)
Brooklyn’s George Lewis aka Twin Shadow is doing a series called UNDR THE CVRS and his rendition of the U2 hit is the fifth release, after songs by Lou Reed, Tori Amos, Bruce Springsteen and 10CC.
Eve 6 – Promise
Eve 6’s 2000 album Horrorscope was one of the first we ordered off Amazon. It took so long to come, I thought they’d lost the package. Then another batch of the same CDs arrived soon after. They thought the order was lost too so they sent us a replacement. I offered to return it but they said I should just keep both. So we had two copies of this album. The bright yellow manga cover art was exciting enough, and then there was the actual CD – a bright blue smooth disc. It was a small design treat every time I opened it to pop it in the player. I also remember trying to learn the nonsense words of this song by heart. Good stuff.
Sheryl Crow – The First Cut Is The Deepest
I first heard this on an in-flight radio channel and it stuck with me on the trip I was going on.
Texas – Say What You Want
Some laid-back, groovy pop from Scottish band Texas. I have now become that person that says things like, “They don’t play songs like this on the radio anymore.” Have a good week!
