Playlist : July 2012
I thought I’d make a list of what we’ve been listening to these past few weeks and share it with you:
Jack White – Freedom at 21
First up, Jack White. I can’t believe how late I am to this party! I’ve had Seven Nation Army on repeat for a while but that doesn’t really count when you consider how much music the man has made over the years. All has been remedied. Long story short, I was listening to him being interviewed in the excellent podcast series WTF with Marc Maron, White told some really interesting stories, I was curious so I checked out his new song Freedom At 21 and it’s been on repeat ever since.
Mala – Cuba Electronic
Last spring, musician/producer Mala travelled to Havana, Cuba along with DJ Gilles Peterson to collaborate with local musicians. The result of the collaboration is an album titled Mala In Cuba and will be out in September 2012. You’ll get a chance to hear some of the music earlier though, with the release of a 12” featuring two tracks: Cuba Electronic and Calle F. I’m really looking forward to this one!
Maroon 5 – Payphone (Steven V & Alvo’s Big Room Remix)
This remix by Canadian producer Steven V has been my tune of choice when I can’t deal with the grey (no sunshine is a problem, even though it isn’t really raining heavily). Big beats, crazy tempo and really massive arrangement. I don’t know if this makes me a Maroon 5 fan but whatever, this is a really good pop song and I can totally get behind it.
Kid Cudi – Pursuit of Happiness (Steve Aoki Remix)
I first heard this Kid Cudi song in the form of a cover version by the woman with the best voice I’ve heard in years – American singer/songwriter/guitarist Lissie. She performs this live and sounds incredible:
Keeping with the uptempo need of the hour, we’ve had this remix by Steve Aoki playing constantly. Enjoy!
