Song For Zula – Phosphorescent
6 minutes and 10 seconds of absolute gorgeousness. We discovered this track from NPR’s The Austin 100 – their list of artists to discover at SXSW 2013.
Yes Yes – The Colourist
We like our music sunny. And with great artwork. The Colourist qualifies on both counts.
Overgrown – James Blake
I’m more of a fan of James Blake’s music than E is, but on Overgrown our interests meet wonderfully. We picked this as much for the sound as for the stunning visuals by director Nabil Elderkin. After watching this video we lost a bit of time exploring Elderkin’s other work. A fair amount was NSFW but this one he made for the title track of Blake’s new album you can watch at work no problem.
Nocturne – Pentagram
We liked this new song by Mumbai rockers Pentagram so much that we braved their gig at the Blue Frog recently to watch them perform it live. I say ‘braved’ because there’s a lot of jumping around by a lot of enthusiastic young people and our stuck-at-a-computer-all-day bones are easily rattled. It was totally worth it and I’m happy to report that Nocturne is as much fun live as we hoped it would be.
Boomerang – Barenaked Ladies
This is such a sweet sweet song. No rocking the boat, just a good old sing-along, all pretty melodies with the kind of lyrical storytelling that BNL have come to be known for.
