John Mayer – Love On The Weekend
John Mayer is a smart guy. His first new song in over three years is not a ‘look-at-me-I’m-such-a-virtuoso’ bag of flashy tricks, instead it’s a quiet invitation to explore the results of the musical journey he’s been on over the years. It hits all my sweet spots – is that country music you hear in the excellent phrasing – and I can’t wait for more new music in 2017.
Noga Erez – Dance While You Shoot
Wow, I’m not entirely sure what’s going on here but I absolutely love how it sounds.
Michael Price – Improvisation For Piano Day
This is the kind of piece you want to get lost in.
Lissie – I Will Always Love You
Consider the setting for this performance – a recording studio with people sitting around at desks, turning at awkward angles to look at the singer who is standing kind of in a corner with nothing but a mic stand in front of her. How do you conjure up a searing and powerful rendition of a much beloved song in such a setting? I don’t know how she does it but Lissie pulls it off. Mad mad props.
Jidenna – Helicopters (Live – Vevo Lift)
I want to watch Jidenna live. That stage presence is just nuts for someone who is not (yet) a seasoned, well-established artist.
