Visiting the Bar

Over the past few days I’ve struggled with my stories, wrestled with them like they were alligators or oily men in an akhada.

Which doesn’t mean I’m not proud of them, it’s just that the ‘flow’ became a trickle after the Nine Inch Nails (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) stories and so naturally, like any man who should simply knuckle down and work harder, I complained (a bit).

So L took on the onus of finding me some inspiration.

This morning she showed me two images, this one (fourth from the top) and this one (seventh from the top) and asked me to write a short story around those two images.
And she said, “Don’t make them about either sex or death!”

I was quick to point out that the people at the bar could have been having a drink before (or after) a funeral and the church could well be the location of said funeral (of a person who died from sex) :o)

She was not too amused and I set out to do what I could with the cues provided. What I didn’t know is that she’d also left this quote for me to find. it became the source of the first paragraph of my latest short story and the rest just flowed from there.

Muchas gracias senorita! Some day I hope to do the same for you.

In the meantime please read The Quiet Bar
